Boot Fixes

Create the below boot.ini file on the floppy diskette
drive.
BOOT.INI
[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT=”Microsoft
Windows 2000 Professional” /fastdetect

Copy the NTLDR and NTDETECT.COM files from another
computer using the same Operating System. Both of
these files are located in the root directory of the
primary hard disk drive. For example, C:\NTLDR and
C:\NTDETECT.COM should be the locations of these files
on many computers.

copy e:\i386\ntldr c:\
copy ntdetect.com c:\

After you have ascertained that all necessary files
are there in C:\ such as ntdetect.com, ntldr,
boot.ini, (optional for W2K: cmldr) as well as
autoexec.bat, config.sys, io.sys, msdos.sys (the last
4 all with filesize = 0), it’s tyme to do a quick
repair, using the Recovery Console.

If you have not yet installed it, insert the W2K CD:

1. Click Start, click Run, and then type CD-ROM drive
letter:\i386\winnt32.exe /cmdcons in the Open box,
where CD-ROM drive letter is the drive letter assigned
to your CD-ROM drive.

2. Click OK, follow the instructions on the screen to
finish Setup, and then restart your computer, booting
from the W2K CD.

At the “Welcome to Setup” screen, press F10, or press
R to repair, and then C to start the Recovery Console.
Run both fixboot and fixmbr.

FIXBOOT
fixboot drive name:

Don’t run fixmbr

NTFS Boot Disk

How to use System files to create a boot disk to guard against being unable to start Windows XP
How to create a bootable floppy disk for an NTFS or FAT partition in Windows XP
Creating a bootable flash drive in Windows XP
Creating a boot disk for an NTFS or FAT partition
Assume that you are running a healthy WinNT/2000/XP
system.
Here’s how to create the “Windows Quick Boot”
diskette:

1. Open a DOS Box (Start > Run… > cmd).
2. FORMAT A:
3. XXCOPY16 C:\NTLDR A:\ /H
4. XXCOPY16 C:\NTDETECT.COM A:\ /H
5. XXCOPY16 C:\BOOT.INI A:\
6. Append /safeboot:minimal(ALTERNATESHELL) /sos
/bootlog /noguiboot to the last line of boot.ini to
open a command prompt

If either the Bootsect.dos or the Ntbootdd.sys file resides in the system partition, copy these files to the boot disk as well.
If you format a floppy disk in Windows NT or later, the boot record points to the NTLDR file. When NTLDR runs, it loads the available operating system selections from the Boot.ini file. If the user selects Windows, NTLDR runs Ntdetect.com, and then passes control to Osloader.exe. If the user chooses MS-DOS or OS/2, NTLDR loads Bootsect.dos.
